Abstract

Self-cleaning effect of micro- and nanostructures has attracted much attention in the field of nanotechnology. In this work, we present experimental work that reveals the relation between the surface areas of dual micro- and nanostructures and wettability of materials. It is an effective method to utilize laser interference lithography (LIL) to fabricate the bionic dual micro- and nanostructures of lotus leaves, and increase the surface areas of materials. Dual micro- and nanostructures have been fabricated on iron-nickel alloy surfaces. The experimental results show that the contact angle (CA) has a close relationship with the surface area of the dual micro- and nanostructures.
