Abstract

Purpose: Osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee is a common cause of chronic pain and restriction in performing activities of daily living. OA is a disease of the entire joint, and subchondral bone has been focused on as a feature of early knee OA. In addition, it has been reported that bone resorption by osteoclasts is accelerated in early OA. In recent years, it has been shown that joint instability causes articular cartilage degeneration and its suppression delays cartilage degeneration. However, the effect of suppression of joint instability on subchondral bone has not been clarified.
