Abstract

A trial was conducted to study the effect of supplementary feeding of concentrate feed on growth in Madras Red lambs under field conditions during summer season. Body weight gain and average daily gain (ADG) were compared among control and treatment groups supplemented with either 125 or 200 g of concentrate feed daily. The mean body weight and ADG was higher in the group fed 200 g concentrate feed/day; however, repeated measures ANOVA for growth and univariate analysis for ADG, after adjustment for initial weight indicated absence of significant difference among the groups. The study suggests that supplementation of 200 g concentrate feed had no additional benefit in term of body weight gain in lambs.
