Abstract
Objective: Barley Hordeum vulgaire L is an important grain crop, and is grown in large areas all over the world. The experiment aims to study the effect of different levels of fertilizer from agricultural sulfur (0, 1500, 3000, and 4500 kg) S / H, and the number of cuttings (without cut, one cut, and cut twice) on the yield and quality of green forage and grain yield for barley crop Iba 99.
Material and Methods: In this experiment, randomized whole section design was used in the arrangement of splinter panels - splinter with three replicates, sulfur levels for the secondary plates and the number of cuttings in the sub-plot plates.
Results: The addition of agricultural sulfur at the level (4500 kg S / H) resulted in a significant increase in the following characteristics: - plant height, number of tillers / m2, number of spikes / m2 and grain yield. Whereas the sulfur level (3000 kg S / E) resulted in a significant increase in the two green forage yields and the number of grains / spike when added and for the first and second seasons in succession.
Conclusion: Sulfur has significant effect on plant height and a significant effect of interference between sulfur levels and the number of leaves and number of tillers /m2, but it has no effect on the percentage of protein matter in green forage. The increase on sulfur has a significant effect on spike and gave the highest rate (509.4 spike / m2), and increase the protein level in grain to the highest rate 16.95.
Highlights
Hordeum vulgaire L. is an important cereal crop
The land of the experiment plowed one plow, it was leveled, and it was divided into panels with dimensions (2 x 1.5) m The board contains (10 lines), the distance between one line and another (15 cm), and the panels were separated by 1 m width to prevent the leakage of compost between them, and it was planting with seeds amount (100 kg / ha)
The experiment was carried out according to the complete randomized sector design in the order of split-split plot design, where the sulfur levels (0, 1500, 3000, and 4500) were represented as S / ha and symbol was S0, S1, S2 and S3 as second treatment, and was represented by the number of cuttings, and it was denoted (C0, C1 and C2). (The cutting was implanted when the plant reach 40 cm height) [3,4,5]
Summary
Hordeum vulgaire L. is an important cereal crop. It occupies the fourth position after (wheat, rice, and corn) and is cultivated in large areas in most parts of the world and the Arab world for various purposes, including its use of green forage, or grains in addition to its entry into various industries, as it is used on narrow range in human nutrition, especially in developing countries, by mixing its flour with wheat flour in making bread. In Iraq, it is one of the important winter grain crops that come after wheat in terms of cultivated area and production. Barley can be stuffed in the early stages of its growth, or it may leave sheep to graze in barley fields, especially in the rainy seasons, and leave the fields to produce grains and dried plant residues. Among the varieties that have proven successful in giving more than one seed, as well as the possibility of producing a good cereal yield compared to the lack of forage is the parent category 99 [5,6,7,8]
