Abstract

Studies were carried out under mist chamber with an objective to find out suitable substrate(s) for propagation of hybrid lilies through scaling. An experiment was laid out in a CRD (factorial) design with 45 treatment combinations replicated thrice, with fifteen substrates including cocopeat, sawdust, sand, forest soils and compost and three hybrid lily cultivars i.e. Brindisi, Menorca and Serrada. The results of interaction between substrates and cultivars showed that response was maximum (93.33%) in cv. Brindisi in mohru oak forest soil + cocopeat. Maximum weight of bulblets per scale (1.85 g) was recorded in cv. Serrada in rai forest soil and maximum number of bulblets/scale (2.17) was observed in cv. Serrada in deodar forest soil. Maximum size of bulblets (12.71 mm) was found in cv. Brindissi in sawdust. Propagation index was maximum (136.70%) in cultivar Brindissi planted in rai forest soil. Hence, rai forest soil can be recommended for propagation of lilium through scaling.
