Abstract

A study was conducted to evaluate the effect of feeding complete rations containing Leucena leucocephala leaf meal (LLLM) and warm water treated L. leucocepahala leaf meal (TLLLM) on plane of nutrition, nitrogen balance and growth in kids. Thirty non-descript kids were allocated to five complete rations viz., CR1 (control), CR2 (30% LLLM), CR3 (30% TLLLM), CR4 (40% LLLM) and CR5 (40% TLLLM). The treatment of L. leucocephala leaves by warm water at 30% (CR3) and 40% (CR5) levels did not improve dry matter, digestible crude protein and total digestible nutrients intakes in kids. It also did not improve digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, ether extract, crude protein and nitrogen free extract. Nitrogen retention (g/d) was also not improved significantly (P>0.05) in CR3 and CR5. However, average daily gain (g) was significantly (P<0.05) increased in CR3 (35.92±0.92) than CR2 (21.96±3.95. Feed conversion efficiency (gDM/g gain) was significantly (P<0.05) improved in CR3 (7.67±0.30) than CR2 (14.19±3.14). The study indicated that warm water treated L. leucocephala leaf meal at 30% level can be used in complete ration of kids as a replacement of concentrate mixture.
