Abstract

The effect of the shape, size, and kind of distribution of silicon inclusions in Al – Si alloys with hypoeutectic, eutectic, and hypereutectic compositions on the quality of oxide layer formed in microarc oxidizing (MO) is studied. The phenomenon of inhibition of the growth of oxide layer in MO by silicon particles is discovered, investigated, and explained. Regular features of the effect of the structure of Al – Si alloys on their oxidation are determined, which makes it possible to optimize the properties of coatings deposited by the method of MO.
