Abstract

Background: Phospholipid transfer protein (PLTP) facilitates the transfer of a spectrum of different lipid molecules, not only in the vascular compartment, but also in a variety of tissues. It is highly expressed within the lung epithelium. Alterations in lung lipid metabolism precede the development of fibrosis, at the same time inflammation likely plays a role in disease genesis and progression.
