Abstract

The aim of the present study is to analyze the effect of static stress on plane strain vibrations of a poroelastic solid cylinder using Biot's theory of wave propagation in poroelastic solids. By considering the uniaxial static stress, frequency equation is obtained. Non-dimensional phase velocity is computed as a function of non-dimensional wavenumber for different values of uniaxial static stresses. For illustration purpose, three poroelastic cylinders are considered. Of three, two are sandstone saturated with water, kerosene, and third one is bony element. From the numerical results, a brief discussion of some inferences to be drawn.
