Abstract

Until recently, it has been tacitly assumed that strong static magnetic fields (SMF) do not affect cellular metabolism. It is now becoming clear, however, that this is not so. There is, for example, clear evidence that enzyme control mechanisms in proliferating mouse cells are sensitive to a strong and homogeneous SMF, and that the effect is similar to that of a low dose of irradiation or vitamin E deficiency.
