Abstract

The length of the start-up loading sequence in stress-controlled high-cycle fatigue tests was found to considerably affect the cyclic hardening curves, the corresponding saturated dislocation structures and the fatigue lives of polycrystalline copper specimens. These findings seem of particular importance when fatigue data from different sources or test equipment are compared.
