Abstract

A comparison of various methods of calculation of the effect of spin-exchange interaction on the density matrix of hydrogen and alkali-metal atoms in their ground state is made. The elements connected to the (F,${m}_{F}$0)\ensuremath{\leftrightarrows}(F-1,0) transition are calculated. Matrices necessary for the calculation of any other element are also given.
