Abstract

Ultrasound absorption technique was applied to study the effect of 8-methoxypsoralen (8-MOP), quercetin, and umbeliferone on the organization of dipalmitoylphasphatidylcholine (DPPC) membranes. Based on measurements of the ultrasound absorption coefficient in the region of phase transition temperature, it was stated that all the examined substances decrease the phase transition temperature of DPPC: quercetin - distinctly, 8-MOP and umbeliferone - not much. 8-MOP increases cooperativity of transition and the action of umbeliferone and quercetin depends on their concentrations. Different actions of these three examined compounds are associated with some differences in their structures.
