Abstract

The effect of some mechanical activation parameters (duration, ball acceleration, atmosphere) on the self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) has been investigated by the example of the Ni + Al and Ti + Al systems. The main regularities of SHS wave propagation (gasless combustion) in mixtures subjected to preliminary mechanical activation significantly differ from the SHS regularities in traditional powder systems. This fact is explained primarily by the change in the reaction mixture microstructure and the formation of composite particles during mechanical activation.
