Abstract

In the present work, Mn-N duplex stainless steels (DSS) were deposited on a SUS304 steel plate by plasma arc surfacing welding. The effect of solution treatment and the ratio of ferrite to austenite on the cavitation erosion (CE) behavior of Mn-N DSS coating were investigated. The results showed that depositing Mn-N DSS on other material surfaces through the weld overlay can solve the CE problems. It was found that the CE resistance of the sample treated at 1080 °C was higher than that of samples treated at higher temperatures. The excellent resistance to CE was related to the low ratio of ferrite to austenite that was adjusted by the solution treatment. During the CE process of Mn-N DSS coating, the mechanical factor was the dominating factor.
