Abstract

Mechanically alloyed (MA-ed) Cu–Mo–C powder was synthesized to prepare MA-ed Cu–Mo–C/Cu composite. Phase transformation investigation of the MA-ed powder showed Mo2C was in-situ formed at 900 °C. The composite samples in the ratio of 1%Mo2C were sintered by Spark plasma sintering (SPS) and conventional sintering. In comparison to conventional sintering, the reinforced particles of SPS sample are better bonded with Cu matrix. SPS sample has higher tensile strength (452 MPa), higher density (8.84 g cm−1), higher conductivity (84IACS%) and higher hardness (160 MPa).
