Abstract

Summary Investigations were carried out under greenhouse conditions to study the effect of powdery mildew and sterility mosaic virus either singly or in combination on the nodulation and biomass of pigeonpea. There was a significant reduction in nodule number, nodule weight, shoot weight and root weight due to infection. Sterility mosaic virus had a greater adverse effect than mildew and both together had much greater effect. Of the three varieties tested, cv. BDN-1 was most affected.
