Abstract
SummaryHigh intensity (1.8 × 103 mW/cm2) ultraviolet light irradiation of spores of Bacillus subtilis in the presence of 2.5% (w/v) hydrogen peroxide resulted in a rapid kill. Higher concentrations of hydrogen peroxide protected spores against the effects of irradiation. The results are discussed in relation to the use of simultaneous ultraviolet irradiation and hydrogen peroxide treatment as a method of sterilization.
