Effect of self-care application on the ability of daily life of acute stroke patients

Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of Orem Model on acute stroke patients ' ability of daily life(ADL).Methods In hospitalized sequence,263 patients were divided into observation group(132 cases)and control group(131 cases).Control group was treated with routine rehabilitation treatment,nursing and health education.Observation group was offered with full-compensatory nursing,half-compensatory nursing or support education with guidance of Orem Model according to self-care ability and self-care needs of patients and their family.Every patient's ADL was accessed with Barthel Index(BI)on the time of inclusion(B0),1 month later(B1),three months later(B3)and 6 months(B6)respectively.Results After inclusion the score of ADL was higher than that of the time of inclusion.The score of ADL of observation group was higher than that of control group(P ＜ 0.05).Conclusions Nursing intervention with guidance of self-care can improve stroke patients' ability of daily life.
