Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of health education about self nursing on the ability of self-care and daily activities of postoperative total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients during rehabilitation.Methods Sixty-one patients after TKA between March 2010 and March 2011 were randomly divided into self nursing group (n =31) and control group (n =30).In self nursing group,the patients were educated about self nursing knowledge.while in control groups,the paticnts wcre educated about general health knowledge.Questionnaire of self nursing capacity determination and questionnaire of activities of daily living were used to assess the patients.Results Before the intervention,the scores of self-care abilities and activities of daily living of two groups has no significant different (P > 0.05).After the intervention,the scores of self-care responsibility (13.48 ±4.66 vs 10.87±4.73),self-care concept (25.25 ± 3.65 vs 20.97 ± 4.45),self-care skills (38.98 ± 5.73 vs 33.57 ± 6.06),level of health knowledge (48.00 ± 8.26 vs 42.84 ± 6.60),self-care abilities(125.81 ± 17.59 vs 108.23 ± 16.30) and ADL(76.25 ± 14.80 vs 62.30 ± 15.55) of observational group were significantly higher than that of control group (t =2.287,4.139,3.610,2.730,4.073,3.606,respectively;P <0.05).Conclusions Self nursing education can be more effective in improving TKA patients'self-care ability and the activities of daily living.
