Abstract

Injection of rats with a sublethal dose (200 μg per kg) of Leiurus quinquestriatus venom, induces an increase in the total lipid, cholesterol and phospholipid content of the liver. In the serum an increase in the free and esterified cholesterol, esterified fatty acids, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine and a decrease in free fatty acids, sphingomylin and lysolecithin was demonstrated. An increase in the albumin, alpha 1-and alpha 2-globulins, and a decrease in the beta and gamma globulins of the serum was also observed.
