Abstract

Pd/SiO2 catalysts of different dispersities were prepared by ionic-exchange of Pd [NH3]4+, starting from PdCl2, Pd(NO3)2 and Pd(Ac)2. The catalytic activity for the selective hydrogenation of styrene to ethylbenzene, showed that the reaction is structure insensitive. Nevertheless, for high dispersed catalysts obtained from PdCl2, a decrease in TOF is observed, which is attributed to the poisoning effect of neighboring chlorine species on Pd clusters not completely eliminated after the thermal treatments.
