Abstract

We show that simulations of Earth-LEO Ka-band links conducted using HYCELL-based simulated rain fields: (1) yield slightly lower fade slopes than do EXCELL-based simulated rain fields and (2) fit measured data on selected Earth-GEO Ka-band links slightly better. However, the differences are very small and the slightly conservative estimates yielded by the EXCELL model are offset to a large extent by its greater simplicity.
