Abstract

The rate constant for the exponential decrease in specific activity of urinary creatinine excreted after the injection of creatine-1-C14 in two dogs was found to be –0.0165. This rate was not significantly changed by 400 and 500 r of whole body x-radiation; no significant creatinuria was observed immediately following radiation at this dose level. The urinary output of creatine and creatinine was measured at 2 and 6 months in three rats which survived 1500 r of whole body Co60 gamma radiation and in three rats which survived 435 rep of mixed radiation (neutron to gamma ratio of 3:1). The average daily urinary creatinine excretion was depressed in the rats radiated with gamma rays at 2 and at 6 months; this creatinine depression was not found in the rats radiated with neutrons. The total urinary output of creatine and creatinine was not significantly changed at 2 months in the rats radiated with gamma rays, but was significantly depressed at 6 months; no change in total urinary output of creatine and creatinine was found in the rats radiated with neutrons.
