Abstract

1. The quenching temperature has a strong influence on the wear resistance of high-manganese steel. The optimum quenching temperature, providing the highest wear resistance, is 1100°C. When the carbon content of the steel is above 1.20% the quenching temperature must be increased to 1150°C. 2. High-manganese cast steel is susceptible to overheating, and therefore high temperatures (above 1150°C) should be avoided, since the wear resistance declines sharply.
