Abstract

Objective To study the mental healthy status of parents of dentofacial deformity patients so as to propose corresponding intervention countermeasures.Methods Totals of 206 parents of dentofacial deformity patients were recruited and investigated with SCL-90 before and after intervention.Results The dimension score of SCL-90 in the somatization,depression,anxiety,hostility,paranoid,the number of positive events and total score in parents of dentofacial deformity patients was significantly higher than that of the normal ( t =15.01,12.92,10.79,4.55,4.43,16.43,9.79,respectively ; P < 0.01 ).After intervention,the dimension score of somatization,depression,anxiety,hostility,paranoid,and the number of positive events,and total scorewere (1.42±0.65),(1.61±0.42),(1.40±0.38),(1.42±0.51),(1.45±0.49),(1.28±0.38),( 26.35 ± 9.27 ),( 127.56 ± 11.01 ),and that of before intervention were ( 1.86 ± 0.34),( 1.66 ± 0.49 ),(1.97 ±0.32),(1.78 ±0.35),(1.65 ±0.41),(1.56 ±0.23),(47.32 ± 11.96),(155.43 ±23.68),and the differences were statistically significant ( t =6.61,4.41,12.09,5.86,3.27,6.61,46.61,10.31,respectively;P <0.01 ).Conclusions Our data indicated that there were many mental health issues existed in parents of patients with dentofacial deformity.Significant improvement to psychological status was obtained after receiving proper nursing intervention.
