Abstract

A force feeding method with moistened feed (feeds/water: 50/50) was used to determine the true digestibility of protein (TDP) and true digestibility of amino acids (TDAA) in meals prepared from whole rapeseed (WRSM) and from rapeseed dehulled before processing (DRSM). Thirty-six intact roosters (Isa Brown) fasted for 24 h were force fed. Excreta were collected during the two 24 h periods post-feeding. The influence of protein intake (10.5, 13.5 and 17.5 g per animal) on TDP and TDAA was investigated. The means of TDP in WRSM and DRSM ranged from 72.7 to 73.4% and 81.8 to 82.3%, respectively. Those of TDAA were 80.2–81.5% and 84.7–85.7%, respectively. Under our experimental conditions, protein intake had no significant effect on true digestibility of amino acids.
