Abstract
Electrophoretic fractionation of serum from rats starved for varying periods up to 16 days and subsequently rehabilitated was performed. There was a fall in the albumin, α- and β-globulin with no changes in the total protein and γ-globulin concentrations during starvation. During rehabilitation there was an initial fall in the total serum protein and γ-globulin, accompanied by an increase in the α- and β-globulin concentrations. The varying changes in serum protein concentrations cannot be entirely explained by alterations in plasma volume.
