Abstract

LENS™ is one of the laser additive manufacturing techniques for depositing metal powders directly using 3D CAD model to produce functional parts. The effect of process parameters on microstructural features, solidification cracks, hardness, and tensile properties of SS316 alloy were studied. The effect of re-melting of each layer partially during deposition of successive layers was also investigated. The tensile properties of LENS deposited SS316 alloy were found to be superior to wrought alloy.
