Abstract

In this paper, the effect of different process parameters on power consumption during machining of P20 steel in CNC milling machine is investigated and optimize the process parameters. The experiments are designed based on Box-Behnken design of response surface methodology (RSM). Power consumption is considered as important performance measure which is the function of decision variables viz. Cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut. The percentage contribution is calculated based on ANOVA to identify most influencing parameter on power consumption. The study revealed that cutting speed, feed are the most significant parameters affecting the power consumption followed by depth of cut. Regression analysis is carried out to relate the process variables and performance measures. Finally RSM method is used to find the optimal process parameters.
