Abstract

Measurements of ultrasonic absorption α/f2 in water have been made over a range of temperatures from 0° to 80°C and at pressures from atmospheric up to 1000 kg/cm2. From the measured values of α/f2, the volume viscosity ηv has been calculated and found to exhibit a maximum versus pressure at all temperatures. [Work was supported by a grant from the Office of Saline Water, Department of the Interior.]
