Abstract

The effect of hydrostatic pressure on the antiferromagnetic transition temperature T N of isostructural compounds UPt 2Sn and UCu 2Sn with the hexagonal ZrPt 2Al-type structure has been investigated by means of resistivity measurements. A positive pressure effect on T N is found in UPt 2Sn (d T N/d P = +9.0 × 10 −2 K/kbar), whereas in UCu 2Sn application of pressure results in the opposite effect (−9.6 × 10 −2 K/kbar). The results are discussed in terms of both the 5f-ligand hybridization and the Kondo lattice model.
