Abstract

The initial ac-susceptibility and the Curie temperature T C of amorphous R x Co 70− x B 30 alloys (R = Y, Tm; x = 2, 4, 6, 8) have been investigated under high hydrostatic pressure up to 9 kbar over a wide temperature range from 80 to 500 K. A small decrease in T C was observed under pressure for all the R x Co 70− x B 30 alloys studied. The value of the pressure parameter dT C/dp decreases monotonically from −0.1 to −0.6 K/kbar with increasing content of the R element and decreasing T C. Using the theoretical band models of magnetism, the studied R x Co 70− x B 30 alloys can be characterised as homogeneous strong itinerant ferromagnets.
