Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of the process of combustion of a droplet at various pressures of the oxidizing medium and determines the effect of pressure on the combustion mechanism. Studies at higher pressures isolated the two stages of the process of magnesium droplet combustion: the vapor-phase combustion, and the oxide residue chemical reaction. On the basis of observation it was possible to describe the structure of the residue and propose a mechanism by which the second stage of the process occurs, as shown. On the basis of the experiments performed, factors can be indicated which apparently determine the features observed.
