Abstract

Preparation of Nd 2CuO 4 by ceramic route, coprecipitation of neodynium and copper hydroxides as well as by coprecipitation of neodynium and copper oxalates is described. Low temperature specific heat shows that the method by hydroxide coprecipitation gives pure N 2CuO 4 insulator with an upturn at 1.5 K of 6.1 J mol −1 K −1, such a high value (probably near a cusp) corresponds to the antiferromagnetic Nd moment ordering observed at T n = 1.5. K by neutron diffraction measurements. In such a Nd 2CuO 4 sample, the absence of rounded peaks (observed for other preparation batches at 1.5 < T ⩽ 3 K) and of γ contribution results from respect to stoichiometry (no Cu +) and non-existence of Nd 2O 3 impurity phase.
