Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of preoperative oral maltodextrin fructose solution on postoperative stress response and comfort in patients with gastrointestinal cancer. Methods 76 patients with gastrointestinal cancer admitted to our hospital from July, 2018 to July, 2019 were selected as the study objects. The simple random number table method was used to divided the patients into an observation group and a control group, with 38 cases in each group. There were 24 male and 14 female in the observation group; and they were (52.58±9.59) years old. There were 25 male and 13 female in the control group; and they were (52.64±9.63) years old. The control group were forbidden to drink and fast one day before and one day after the operation. The observation group orally took maltodextrin fructose solution 1 d before the operation and on the day of the operation. The stress response and comfort of the two groups were compared. Results Four hours before the operation, there were no statistical differences in the levels of MDA, SOD, FBG, insulin, and HOMA-IR between the two groups (all P>0.05). After the operation, the levels of MDA, SOD, FBG, insulin, and HOMA-IR in the two groups were higher than those four hours before the operation, and the levels of MDA, FBG, insulin, and HOMA-IR in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, while the level of SOD was higher than that in the control group, with statistical differences (all P<0.05). There was statistical difference in the comfort degree between the two groups (P<0.05). The total comfort of the observation group was 36.84% (14/38), which was better than that of the control group [13.16% (5/38)] (P<0.05). Conclusions Preoperative oral maltodextrin fructose solution can reduce the postoperative stress response of patients with gastrointestinal cancer, and improve their comfort level, so it is worthy of clinical application. Key words: Preoperative oral medication; Maltodextrin fructose solution; Gastrointestinal neoplasms; Postoperative stress; Comfort
