Abstract
Present study was undertaken to investigate the effects of triazophos (TZ) preconceptional exposure of 30 days at three different doses on fertility and reproductive performance of female rats. Non-significant change in reproductive indices like gestational length and pup viability was observed in all TZ treated groups. Subtle reduction in litter size and significantly altered male:female sex ratio was observed in all the TZ treated groups. Clinical signs such as hyperactivity, impaired gait, forelimb and hindlimb paralysis and increased head elevations were observed in pups born to 1/10th of LD50 TZ treated female rats. Reduced body weight of the pups was observed in 1/10th and 1/20th of LD50 TZ treated group during 30 days postnatal development. Developmental milestones were not significantly altered except fur development which was significantly delayed in pups of 1/10th and 1/20th treated groups. The results suggest that TZ preconceptional exposure may affect reproductive performance. Further investigation with higher doses and skeleton study is suggested for developmental parameters in the offsprings.
