Abstract

The effect of power consumption on axial solids concentration profiles in a fully baffled mixing tank has been investigated for solid—liquid systems. The axial solids concentration profiles at various solid concentrations in a slurry mixing tank have been measured using a photoelectric method and can be described by the sedimentation—dispersion model. Two types of impeller, a flat disc turbine and a marine propeller with downward discharge, have been used. A model is developed to delineate the operating conditions needed to obtain homogeneous suspension.
