Abstract
Experiments have established that there is an upper limit (D/d=max) of existence of the dynamic arch forming above the discharge orifice in the process of flow of a particulate material out of a hopper at certain discharge orifice diameter to particle diameter ratios. Within the limits of existence of the dynamic arch (between D/d=min and D/d=max) the fill height has no effect on the rate of discharge. Beyond the upper limit of existence of the dynamic arch the effect of fill height on the rate of discharge obeys an exponential law.
