Abstract
The effect of powder characteristics on the microstructures and electrical properties of (Ba, Bi, Nb)-added TiO2 ceramics was studied. Two powders were selected: one prepared by sol-precipitation using modified alkoxide precursors, and another prepared by mixing reagent-grade oxides. The fine grains and homogeneous distribution of additives in the sol-precipitated powder enhanced additive ( e.g. Ba, Bi, Nb) dissolution in the matrix during sintering, as well as solute segregation during cooling, which resulted in better varistor electrical properties.
