Abstract
The mechanical properties and local corrosion behavior of coarse-grained (CG) and ultrafine-grained (UFG) 2219 Al alloys with post-aging heat treatment have been investigated. The hardness and strength of UFG alloy were greatly higher and the susceptibility to intergranular corrosion was significantly lower compared with CG alloy. However, the exfoliation corrosion and electrochemical corrosion resistance of UFG alloy were lower than CG alloy. In addition, the local corrosion behavior of UFG alloys was less sensitive to post-aging conditions compared with CG alloy. The differences in mechanical properties and local corrosion behavior of UFG and CG 2219 Al alloy with post-aging heat treatment were mainly attributed to the complex interactions of grain size, dislocation and aging precipitates.
