Abstract
Chitosan is second most abundant biopolymer in nature that most widely studied as polymer nanoparticle for encapsulation and release of an active ingredient. Tonic gelation is one of the interesting methods for synthesis of chitosan nanoparticle. Chitosan is polycations so it needs polyanions as opposite charge to form nanoparticle via ionic gelation method. There is some type of polyanions. Sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) is the most commonly used as polyanions. This research study about the effect of polyanions variation on the particles size of chitosan nanoparticle and the effect of adding different polyanions i.e alginate, carrageenan and sodium dodecyl sulfate on the particle size of chitosan-sodium tripolyphosphate. Synthesis chitosan nanoparticle with the polyanions variation shows that chitosan nanoparticles using polyanions sodium tripolyphosphate has the smallest particle size were 301,3 ± 10,6 nm compared to alginate, carrageenan, and sodium dodecyl sulfate. While chitosan nanoparticles synthesis by using polyanionic sodium dodecyl sulfate has the largest particle size were 1162,4 ± 15,0 nm. The effect of addition alginate, carrageenan, and sodium dodecyl sulfate show increase the particle size of chitosan-sodium tripolyphosphate respectively become 318,0 ± 1,8 nm; 778,6 ± 61,9 nm; 1658,6 ± 16,65 nm at a variation of chitosan and sodium tripolyphosphate with other polyanions 3: 0,5:0,5 (v/v).
