Effect of pitavastatin on serum high-molecular weight (HMW) adiponectin to total adiponectin ratio in type 2 diabetic patients

Abstract

Aim To investigate the effect of pitavastatin on the ratio of serum high-molecular weight (HMW) adiponectin to total adiponectin. Methods Twenty-four type 2 diabetic patients with hypercholesterolemia were studied before and 12 weeks after pitavastatin treatment (2 mg/day). Results Treatment with pitavastatin significantly increased the ratio of serum HMW adiponectin to total adiponectin. Conclusions This data showed the pleiotropic effect of pitavastatin on the serum active form of adiponectin.
