Abstract

Objective To observe the efficacy of the pig tail probe and double-passage annular canalicular stent implantion for the treatmeat of obsolete canalicular laceration. Methods A total of 15 eyes of 15 patients with obsolete canalicular laceration underwent the secondary operation to repair the canalicular laceration. During the surgery, the pig tail probe was used to found the nasal end of the lacerated canaliculus, then the annular silicone stent was placed and kept for 6 months.The clinical efficacy was observed. Results All patients recovered anatomical position and function. Epiphora symptom disappeared in 14 patients, while 1 patient had a mild epiphora because of slight ectropion of inferior lacrimal punctum, irrigation of lacrimal duct was unobstructed. Conclusion The use of pig tail probe during the operation can save the time of founding the nasal end of the lacerated canaliculus. It is a reliable and satisfactory method for the treatmeat of obsolete canalicular laceration when combined with the double-passage annular canalicular stent intubation.
