Abstract

Abstract— Yeast cells are inactivated by treatment with hematoporphyrin and light. The inactivation, which is mediated by singlet oxygen (1O2), is enhanced by the presence of phosphate and chloride. Neither phosphate nor chloride has any influence on the yield of 1O2. Possible mechanisms for the enhancement are briefly discussed.
