Abstract

Phase separation in photochromic glass containing silver halides, after heat treatment, was investigated by transmission electron microscopy. In addition, the effects of phase separation on the refractive index, the transmission curve and the photochromic properties (darkening-fading curve) have been investigated. The base glass used in the experiments was in the R 2OB 2O 3Al 2O 3SiO 2 system. The electron micrographs indicate that the phase separation in the glass is caused by heat treatment.
