Abstract

The dependence of the pH of the medium on the partial pressure of CO2 and temperature in the system constituted by low-carbon steel and NaCl (3%) and the effect of pH variation on the corrosion rate were studied. The mechanism of carbonic acid corrosion of ferrous metals in oxygen-free mineralized aqueous media was analyzed. The possibility of prognosticating the rate of steel corrosion on the basis of partial pressure of CO2 and pH value was considered.
