Abstract

Magnesium ferrite (MgFe2O4) nanostructures are successfully fabricated by sol‐gel method. Structural studies are carried out using X‐ray diffraction (XRD) which shows single‐phase formation of FCC spinel structure. The average particle size of samples prepared at different pH values (1.38–8) and sintered at 400 °C is controlled in the range 10.38–15.57 nm. It is found that the nanoferrites show increase in size and better crystallinity at increased pH value. Formation of spinel structure is confirmed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The magnetic measurements are made from M‐H hysteresis loops traced at room temperature using vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). Ferrites in the nanoregime are found to behave as single domain.
