It has been deduced that the use of a source with a spatial distribution of the form (1 − r 2) − ½ results in an increase of the resolving power of a microscope having an annular aperture at the condenser. The dependence of limit of resolution on the obstruction ratio of the annular aperture has been represented graphically.
