Abstract

The compound CaBaCo4O7 is extensively studied for its magnetic and magnetoelecric coupling. We have explored the effect of oxygen stoichiometry on the structural, magnetic and complex capacitance behavior. The oxygen content in this cobalt oxide have been evaluated using iodometric titration. We found that oxygen stoichiometry has significant effect on the magnetic and electric properties in CaBaCo4O7. The oxygen excess CaBaCo4O7 shows two magnetic transition one around 54 K and another around 86 K as compared to one transition in oxygen stoichiometric sample. Corresponding to 86 K magnetic transition, a frequency independent transition is observed in the capacitance vs temperature plot which infer that magnetoelectric coupling is strongly depend on oxygen stoichiometry.
